Sexual Harassment in the Workplace Part II

WOW!!! I am amazed at the response the last article I wrote about sexual harassment has brought. What has astounded me the most is that the responses have ALL been regarding the REVERSE!! TEACHERS HARASSING STUDENTS!!! This response has been large enough and loud enough that I thought a followup article was appropriate!

Students…..BEWARE!! Studio Owners……..BEWARE!!! There is absolutely NO ROOM in our industry for these Tango Cassanova's!! And judging from the responses I have received, the students falling pray to these individuals are not the elderly women depicted on television recently, but young, smart, successful women ! What is going on???

No student, female or male should stand for this. You are making the time and investing dollars into learning how to dance and to belong to a group that shares a common interest.

If your teacher even hints of his/her availability if your also "looking for love", then do two things immediately….Go to the Studio Owner and make him/her aware of the come-on, and then LEAVE! There is a 99% chance that the Studio owner is not aware that there is an employee or floor renter using students for prey…..do not be quiet about it…..tell them! You can not stop the problem by remaining silent.

For those of you who have written……I'm so sorry you feel that you have been victimized. This is NOT the norm of the industry. The fact that you have allowed yourselves to be led into these difficult situations is past. The goal now should be to stop the process from happening to others. This can only occur with exposure. Of course an uncomfortable and unpleasant task, but one that needs to happen if we are to rid the industry of those that continue to provide the fodder the media loves to project about us!

Studio owners, PLEASE be on the alert……this type of teacher will ultimately affect your business in the only way it can……BADLY!!
